1960s Mid Century Modern Carved Soapstone Cylinder Lidded Vessel Box

Hand-carved soapstone lidded vessel from India in the 1960's. The original label is still intact on the bottom side, see close up photo. The round bowl shaped vessel has been carved from one solid piece of stone , so the lid and base have matching patterning within the stone. The stone is evenly figured and a rich clay color. Both the lid and base have remained in great vintage condition. Soapstone is a porous soft stone that easily absorbs oils or staining liquids, so not recommend for use as food store. Simple natural stone makes a great vessel to store jewelry or other small treasures.
