A charming pair of mid-century handmade pottery vessels from Tesuque, New Mexico, decorated in the brightly colored "roadside" style that emerged throughout Northern New Mexico during the mid-20th century. These small earthenware pieces capture a fascinating moment in Southwestern craft history, when traditional Pueblo pottery forms were adapted for the growing tourist trade along Route 66 and the Santa Fe plaza markets.

Hand-built from natural clay and left largely unglazed, each vessel is embellished with vibrant poster paint decoration featuring bold geometric motifs inspired by Pueblo design traditions. The larger vessel displays an energetic composition of feather-like and abstract forms in saturated greens, yellows, blues, oranges, and black, while the smaller example echoes these motifs in a simplified arrangement. The matte clay bodies provide a beautiful contrast to the graphic hand-painted surfaces.

Unlike highly refined blackware or mineral-painted Pueblo pottery intended for ceremonial or gallery presentation, these "roadside" examples celebrate accessibility, spontaneity, and regional character. Their playful modernist sensibility and expressive color palette make them equally appealing to collectors of Southwestern folk art, New Mexico travel souvenirs, and postwar decorative arts.

Displayed together, they offer a vibrant glimpse into the vernacular creativity of mid-century Northern New Mexico.
