A striking mid-century modern abstract bull sculpture by renowned Slovenian artist Boštjan Putrih (1947–2008). Originating from the Yugoslav avant-garde art movement of the 1960s and 1970s, this brutalist studio pottery piece features a highly dynamic, stylized silhouette. The sculpture masterfully emphasizes the animal's powerful musculature, rearing head, and primeval strength through fluid organic curves and raw, textured forms.
While capturing the heavy, tactile aesthetic of a cast bronze or brass piece, this sculpture is a masterclass in studio ceramic technique. It is crafted from a fired clay body finished with a spectacular metallic luster glaze. The specialized overglaze reduction application provides a convincing antiqued gold and dark black chemical patina that shifts beautifully under varying light conditions. The lower flank features a clearly incised, authentic artist signature reading "B. PUTRIH". The underside displays an unglazed, textured geometric circle characteristic of mid-century European studio venting and kiln placement.
